Dr. James Thacker, MD is a graduate of University of Georgia. He attended medical school at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta Georgia.  He then completed his internship at Lloyd Noland Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama. Next, he completed his residency in Anesthesia at Medical College of Georgia again in Augusta, Georgia. He practiced as an Anesthesiologist for 15 years.  In fact, Dr. Thacker was the Director of Anesthesiology for Parkway Medical Center Hospital, Decatur for seven years. Having personally had several back surgeries, he decided that he wanted to pursue Pain Management as a way to get him and others out of pain. While practicing anesthesiology, Dr. Thacker started learning and practicing pain management in Decatur, Alabama. He completed a fellowship in Pain Medicine/Interventional Pain Medicine at California Spine Institute. He then moved to Colorado, where he practiced pain management for another 10 years. In 2011, Dr. Thacker decided to sell his Colorado pain clinic and move back to Huntsville to rejoin his three children and extended family living in the area. It was at this time that he opened Huntsville Pain Management.   

Certifications: He is currently certified by The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons; The American Board of Minimally Invasive Spine Medicine Surgery; The American Board of Interventional Pain Management; and Diplomate of the American Academy of Pain Management, Certificate #7825.  He is licensed in Alabama, Georgia, Colorado, and California.
